The Chicago festival season runs from June to September, bringing many events worth attending for all ages. From world-class music festivals to food street festivals celebrating local cuisine, the Windy City offers something for everyone.

Chicago Festival Guide 2026: The Most Popular Events During Summertime

Below is a summer Chicago festival schedule of the most popular events, with public transit directions.

 

Chicago Festivals in June

 

Chicago Pride Fest

The Chicago Pride Fest is a two-day annual street festival in Northalsted celebrating the local LGBTQ+ community and culture. It takes place on June 20th and 21st, the weekend before the Chicago Pride parade on Sunday, June 28th. 

The event features:

•Live music on three stages

•Youth Pride Space for teenages

•Drag performances

•Proud pet parade

•Dance exhibitions

•Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus

There are also guest speakers, vibrant murals, and over 150 food and merchandise vendors. It’s free to attend, with $20 suggested donations that support event workers, local non-profits, and community programs. These donations help maintain the 14 Chicago Pride crosswalks on Halsted St— the longest permanent LGBTQ+ pride installation of its kind in the world! 

VIP tickets are also available for $55, which include express entry, a covered VIP lounge with seating, a private bar, and air-conditioned restrooms. The event hours are from 11 am to 10 pm both days.

 

 

The Chicago Pride Fest’s main gates are located at Halsted & Addison, Halsted & Waveland, and Broadway & Waveland. We recommend taking the CTA Red Line from the Addison or Sheridan stations. You can also take CTA Buses 8, 22, 36, 77, 80, 146, 151, and 152.

 

Chicago Blues Festival

The Chicago Blues Festival is the largest Blues festival in the world, featuring top-tier talent. It’s a multi-day event from June 4th to June 7th in Millennium Park. Hosted by the City of Chicago, it’s a free annual festival that’s been running since 1984, attracting an average of over 500,000 attendees. This year’s lineup includes Taj Mahal & The Phantom Blues Band, Billy Branch, and more.

The event features:

•Four open-air live music stages from local, national, and global Blues artists

•Multiple BBQ pits

•Panel discussions

•Live radio broadcasts

•After parties

 

 

We recommend taking the Millennium Park CTA station to the Chicago Blues Festival. You can exit at Washington/Wabash, at Lake (Red Line), or at Washington (Blue Line) and walk east. There are also several bus routes via 3, 4, 6, J14, 20, 56, 60, 124, 146, 147, 151, and 157.

 

Millennium Park Summer Music Series

The Millennium Park Summer Music Series is a free outdoor Chicago festival hosted by the City of Chicago that runs throughout the summer. It takes place on select Mondays and Thursdays from June 15th to August 6th at the famous Jay Pritzker Pavilion. 

It’s an elevated open-air venue with an accompanying 95,000-square-foot Great Lawn that can fit up to 10,000 people. From DJs to jazz and hip-hop, you’ll find a diverse lineup of music for all types of fans. 

The event features:

•Picnic areas to bring your own food and drinks

•On-site dining

•Fixed pavilion seating

•Grass seating areas

•Aerial sound system (first of its kind in the world!)

 

 

We recommend taking the Millennium CTA station to the Millennium Park Summer Music Series, a four-minute walk via the Metra Electric (ME) and South Shore Lines (SSL). You can also take the Randolph & Columbus bus stop, a five-minute walk via Bus 60.

 

Chicago Festivals in July

 

Taste of Chicago

The Taste of Chicago is among the most popular culinary Chicago festivals during summer for food enthusiasts since 1980. It takes place at Grant Park from July 8th to July 12th. Hosted by the City of Chicago, the annual event is free to enter and showcases diverse local cuisine. From halal to tamales and cheesecake, there’s delicious food for all taste buds. 

The event features:

•Three live music stages

•Local food vendors, trucks, and pop-ups 

•Children’s activities, such as interactive art and inflatables

•Cutting ceremony of the 1,000-pound Eli’s cheesecake with free slices 

 

 

We recommend taking the train from the Harrison Metra to the Taste of Chicago via the Red Line, a nine-minute walk. The Museum Campus/11 St bus stop is also another option, an 11-minute walk via the ME and SSL Lines.

 

Windy City Smokeout

The Windy City Smokeout is a three-day country music and BBQ festival in Chicago. It takes place from July 8th to July 12th outside the United Center in Lot C. This year’s lineup has popular country musicians such as Blake Shelton and Jordan Davis as headliners.

The event features:

•National country music artist performances

•Multi-course dinners from local and national award-winning BBQ pitmasters

•Culinary events, such as BBQ brunches with build-your-own Bloody Marys and live acoustic music

•Shopping vendors, such as custom hats and jewelry

•On-site activities and attractions

•Free to leave and re-enter privileges 

General admission tickets start at $89.99 for single-day Friday tickets, increasing as you add more days and premium experiences, such as private cabanas and VIP entrances/exits. Children under the age of 10 are free to attend with an adult.

 

 

The Windy City Smokeout’s main entrance is at the intersection of Madison & Wood. We recommend taking the Damen CTA station via the Green Line, a nine-minute walk. The Damen & Madison bus stop is also a three-minute walk away via Bus 50.

 

Lollapalooza

Arguably the most popular Chicago festival, Lollapalooza is a four-day music festival bringing in an average of 115,000 fans from all over the world each day. It takes place at Grant Park in the Chicago Loop neighborhood from July 30th to August 2nd. 

This year’s lineup features global musicians like Lorde, Charlie XCX, and The Smashing Pumpkins. You’ll dance under the picturesque Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan shoreline in an open-air outdoor venue. 

The event features:

•170+ artists

•Eight live music stages

•Local food and drink vendors 

•Event merchandise

•Group cabanas and suites

•Speakeasy lounges

There’s even a Kidzapalooza for child-friendly entertainment, including photo booths, craft stations, hip-hop workshops, and more. General admission tickets start at $185, increasing as you add more days or VIP experiences.

Chicago Festivals in August

 

Northalsted Market Days

The Northalsted Market Days is one of the largest outdoor street festivals in the Midwest. It takes place from August 7th to August 9th in the Northalsted/Lakeview neighborhood. 

Northalsted Market Days received national recognition, including the top 10 Chicago festivals by BizBash and one of the Can’t Miss Queer Events by Thrillist. This year’s lineup includes popular musicians such as Keri Hilson and Frankie Grande. 

The event features:

•Four live music stages

•250+ vendors

•Drag performances

•Dance exhibitions 

It’s free to attend, with $20 donations suggested to support festival workers, charities, non-profits, and local community programs. VIP passes are also available, including six free drinks, VIP lounge access, private air-conditioned restrooms, and more.

 

 

The Northalsted Market Days location is a half-mile long from Belmont to Addison. We recommend taking the Belmont CTA station via the Red, Brown, or Purple Lines, which is two blocks away.

 

Taylor Street Little Italy Festival

The Taylor Street Little Italy Festival is a free three-day Chicago street festival celebrating local Italian-American cuisine and culture. It takes place from August 13th to 16th on Taylor St in Chicago’s historic Little Italy neighborhood.

The event features:

•Food vendors from award-winning local, authentic Italian restaurants

•Live music and performers

•Carnivals, games, and magicians

•Cultural exhibits 

•Traditional Sunday morning procession from the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii

 

 

We recommend taking the Polk CTA station to the Taylor Street Music Festival via the Pink Line, a few blocks away. The Taylor & Ashland bus stop takes you directly to Taylor St via Bus 157.

 

Chicago Air and Water Show

The Chicago Air and Water Show is the largest free show of its kind in the U.S. It’s a two-day annual lakefront festival taking place along the shores of Lake Michigan on August 15th and August 16th.

The event features:

•High-flying supersonic fighter jet air performances by elite military and civilian pilots, including U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and U.S. Navy Blue Angels

•High-speed water stunts, such as boat jumping and waterskiing 

•Sea rescue demonstrations by local emergency officials 

 

 

The Chicago Air and Water Show is on N Avenue Beach in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. We recommend taking the Chicago/State CTA station via the Red Line, a 15-minute walk away. You can also take the North Ave bus stop via Bus 72, which is a 15-minute walk.

 

Lakeview Taco Fest

The Lakeview Taco Fest is a two-day annual food festival in Chicago celebrating delicious taco cuisine. It takes place from August 21st to August 23rd in the Southport Corridor between Roscoe and Addison in the Lakeview neighborhood. 

This year marks their 13th festival with delicious tacos from over 10 local eateries. Choose from traditional fillings, like chicken, steak, chorizo, and beef. Or try new tacos you may have never had, such as goat, duck, and mushroom.

The event features:

•Best taco competitions with public voting

•Daily Mexican wrestling performances (Lucha Libre)

•Seasonal brew pairings

•Two live music stages

It’s free to attend, with $10 donations encouraged to support the Friends of Lakeview, which gives back to the community. VIP tickets are also available for $50, including two free drinks, a private bar, a private bathroom, shaded seating, and more.

 

 

We recommend taking the Southport CTA station to the Lakeview Taco Fest, a three-minute walk via the Brown Line. The Addison & Greenview bus stop is also a five-minute walk via Bus 152.

 

Chicago Festivals in September

 

Chicago Jazz Festival

The Chicago Jazz Festival is a highly anticipated three-day jazz festival. It takes place over Labor Day weekend from September 3rd to September 6th in Millennium Park and the Chicago Cultural Center in downtown Chicago. 

Hosted by the City of Chicago, it’s free to enter and has been an annual event for over 40 years, celebrating jazz music. This year’s lineup includes performances by Paquito D’Rivera, M.E.B., and 2 Brown Sisters.

The event features:

•Four live music stages

•Educational music seminars

•Food vendors

•Free local neighborhood concerts leading up to the festival

 

 

We recommend taking the Millennium CTA station to the Chicago Jazz Festival via the ME and SSL Lines, as it’s within walking distance of both venues.

 

ARC Festival

The ARC Festival is a massive four-day music festival celebrating techno, house, and electronic dance music—previously three days! It takes place from September 4th to September 7th at Union Park in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. This year’s lineup has over 100 music performances with headliners Anyma, Underworld, and Michael Bibi. 

The event features:

•Five live music stages (one brand new stage added this year)

•Food vendors from local chefs and restaurants

•Immersive large art installations

•Branded merchandise

•Secret pop-ups and sets 

 

 

We recommend taking the CTA Ashland station to ARC Festival via the Green or Purple Line, a one-minute walk to the entrance. You can also take the Ashland & Lake bus stop via Bus 9, which is a one-minute walk away.

 

Printers Row Lit Fest

The Printers Row Lit Fest is the largest free outdoor literary festival in the Midwest that’s perfect for book lovers. It takes place from September 12th to September 13th. As an annual two-day Chicago festival since 1985, it attracts tens of thousands of attendees from all over. You’ll find hundreds of book vendors in the streets where you can browse and buy as you like.

The event features:

•200+ author panel discussions, including Pulitzer Prize winners and nationally recognized authors

•100+ booksellers

•Newly published books

•Exhibitor booths and program sessions from independent presses, literary organizations, and community partners

 

 

The Printers Row Lit Fest is located on S Dearborn St, spanning from Ida B Wells to Polk St in the Printers Row neighborhood. We recommend taking the Harrison CTA station via the Red Line, a five-minute walk away. 

 

Riot Fest

Riot Fest is a three-day annual music festival in Chicago that’s been globally recognized for 21 years. It takes place from September 18th to September 20th in Douglass Park. 

Riot Fest celebrates punk, rock, hip-hop, metal, and alternative music and is among the largest independently owned music festivals in the U.S. This year’s lineup includes performances by Pierce The Veil, Twenty One Pilots, Nas, and more.

The event features:

•Five live music stages

•90+ live music performances, including full album sets

•Carnival rides, arcades, and a wedding chapel

•Live professional wrestling matches, known as RiotLand

•Dozens of food vendors with multiple vegan options

•Branded festival merchandise

•Record, art, and jewelry merchants

General admission three-day passes start at $339.90, increasing as you upgrade to premium experiences such as dedicated VIP entrances, VIP lounges, and private lockers. Payment plans are also available. 

 

 

We recommend taking the California Ave CTA station to Riot Fest via the Pink Line, which is a few blocks from the entrance.
